Tom Clancy's HAWX DX 10
Tom Clancy dove into the genre of aerial warfare with the release of his latest title HAWX in March 2009. The game is all about dog fighting and gunning down enemy warplanes. The graphics engine for this game looks pretty sweet even on average systems, in spite of features such as HDR, Ambient Occlusion, High Resolution Textures and Realistic fog and Clouds. Everything from the cockpit, to the explosions looks sharp. The demo for the game includes a benchmark test which was used to obtain the following graph :
Very satisfying to see how well multi GPU configuration is performing here. 127 FPS at 12 X CFAA is nothing short of phenomenal. Mind you, even a single HD 5870 can pull off a very respectable 45 FPS average. HAWX runs superbly on ATI hardware. Amazing !!
Far Cry 2 DX 10
The developers of the original Far Cry, Crytek were not involved in the development of Far Cry 2. Far Cry 2 was developed by UBISOFT Montreal and published by Ubisoft. A brand new game engine called Dunya (meaning "earth" in Arabic, but also used in many other languages, including Punjabi, Urdu and Hindi) was specifically built to suit the game's open ended African based setting and visuals. It includes gorgeous DX 10 affects like Dynamic Weather with complete day/night cycles, Real Time Fire Propagation influenced by weather, and Radiosity (Indirect Lighting). Far Cry 2 was released in October 2008 and features a built in graphics test. I used "Ranch Small" for my test runs. Have a look..
The numbers look quite phenomenal here. However, 84 fps does not tell you how badly the benchmark microstuttered. The Same goes for 50 fps in CrossfireX. I would prefer to play this at 8 X MSAA since that provides a much smoother gameplay experience over all.
