MacBook Air 13-inch (M5, 2026)

M5Released March 11, 2026Launch price $1,099 (launch price, 8-core GPU, 16GB / 512GB; Apple's price $1,299 since 25 June 2026)

The cheapest way into a current M5 Mac and the one most people should look at first: fanless and silent, and within a few percent of the MacBook Pro on a single core. The base model's 8-core GPU manages Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p on low settings, not Ultra, and 16GB of memory holds a 7-8B local model comfortably but little more - pick 24GB or the 10-core GPU if you mean to game or run bigger models.

Neutral MacBook Air 230days since update
Mid-cycle: fine to buy if you need one now. Last updated March 3, 2026, MacBook Air 13- and 15-inch (M5); the last 4 updates came every 485 days on average. Next: A MacBook Air with the M6 chip in early 2027 - any time from February to April, most likely March - with the same design as the M5 model. (9to5Mac, 2026-09-30)
