The RTX 5080 is 7 to 21 percent faster than the RTX 5070 Ti, and the gap grows with resolution: 14 percent at 1080p and 21 percent at 4K in KitGuru's Cyberpunk 2077 runs. At launch it cost $999 against $749, 33 percent more.

They are closer than the names suggest. Both use NVIDIA's GB203 chip with 16GB of GDDR7 on a 256-bit bus; the 5080 has 10,752 shaders to the 5070 Ti's 8,960, slightly faster memory (960 against 896GB/s), and draws 360W against 300W.

Games

At 1440p on Tom's Hardware's testbed the 5080 leads by 13 percent in Alan Wake 2 (76.3 against 67.6 fps), 11 percent in Black Myth: Wukong, 9 percent in Counter-Strike 2 and 7 percent in Fortnite. KitGuru's Cyberpunk 2077 figures show the gap growing with pixels: 14 percent at 1080p, 17 percent at 1440p and 21 percent at 4K (64.9 against 53.5 fps). With path tracing and DLSS Performance at 4K it is 53.9 against 44.9 fps.

Work and AI

Blender renders 20 percent faster on the 5080. For local language models the two are closer than in games: llama.cpp text generation is only 3 percent apart (182 against 177 tokens a second), since both have the same 16GB and similar memory bandwidth. The 5080 adds nothing in model size.

Which one to buy

Buy the RTX 5070 Ti for 1440p, and for local AI. It is within about 10 percent of the 5080 in most games at that resolution, for 25 percent less money, with the same 16GB.

Buy the RTX 5080 for 4K or a high-refresh 1440p monitor where the last 15 to 20 percent matters, and make sure your power supply is 850W.

Questions

7 to 17 percent at 1440p depending on the game, and about 21 percent at 4K in Cyberpunk 2077 (KitGuru).

Barely. Both have 16GB; llama.cpp text generation is about 3 percent apart. For bigger models you need more memory, not the 5080.

NVIDIA recommends 850W for the RTX 5080 (360W) and 750W for the RTX 5070 Ti (300W).
