The GeForce RTX 5060 Ti comes in 8GB and 16GB versions, $379 and $429 at launch, and they are the same chip. In most games the published numbers say you cannot tell them apart. The difference is one setting, ray tracing, and one job, local AI, and both depend on memory. Whether $50 for the extra 8GB is worth it comes down to which of those you do.

Where they are level

Tom's Hardware ran both cards on its 2026 GPU testbed, native resolution, no upscaling, and read on 24 June 2026. In Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p Ultra the cards score 86.7 fps (8GB) and 86.5 (16GB). At 1440p Ultra it is 50.1 and 51.1, and at 4K Ultra 20.8 and 22.5. Alan Wake 2 at 1440p Ultra gives 38.5 and 39.8. Black Myth: Wukong at 1440p Very High gives 38.6 and 39.2. Counter-Strike 2 at 1440p High gives 255.3 and 254.9. Fortnite at 1440p High with Lumen and Nanite gives 72.8 and 75.8. None of those gaps is larger than about 8 percent, and most are within 4.

KitGuru, testing different sample cards on a different system, agrees: its Cyberpunk 2077 Ultra averages are 109.0 against 109.2 at 1080p and 71.3 against 71.2 at 1440p, from its RX 9060 XT 16GB review and its RTX 5060 Ti 16GB review.

Where the 8GB card falls over

Turn on ray tracing and the picture changes. In Tom's Hardware's Cyberpunk 2077 ray tracing chart at 1440p Ultra, the 8GB card manages 21.3 fps and the 16GB card 31.1, a 46 percent lead for the card with more memory. The likeliest reason is memory: ray tracing needs more of it, and the 8GB card is the one that runs short. It is the one place the two cards act like different products.

The same limit applies to AI. A model has to fit in video memory to run at full speed, and bartowski's model cards on Hugging Face give the file sizes. Llama 3.1 8B at Q4_K_M is 4.9GB and fits in either card. At Q8_0 it is 8.5GB, which does not fit in 8GB at all. Qwen3 14B at Q4_K_M is 9.0GB, which fits in 16GB with the 1 to 2GB of headroom bartowski recommends and does not fit in 8GB. Our AI model checker runs the same arithmetic for any card.

Only the 16GB card has a published local AI speed in our data: 90.9 tokens per second generating from a 7B model at 4-bit, and 3,737.3 reading a 512-token prompt, from the community llama.cpp scoreboard for CUDA. We have no matching figure for the 8GB card, so we do not compare them there.

Which to buy

The extra $50 is 13 percent more money. If you play at 1080p or 1440p without ray tracing and run no local AI, the 8GB card gives the same frame rates, and the saving is real. If you want ray tracing, plan to keep the card for several years of games that ask for more memory, or want to run models bigger than 8B, the 16GB card is the one to buy: it is the cheapest RTX 50 card with 16GB.

Both prices are launch prices, and the 8GB card is not a Founders Edition, so shop prices can differ. Check each page for the live Best Buy price. Or look at the whole range on the graphics cards page, where the Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB sits at $349 and lines up against both.
